Mo ti ri ododo kan, (I’ve seen a beautiful flower) Ibadi Aran, adumaradan, (Lovely waist, taintless skin) O mo ara mu, o mo oge shey, (Dresses well, very fashionable) Bo fe wura mo ma fun e, (If you want gold I’ll give you) Fadaka kere ninu ohun ti mo ma bun e,(silver is little amongst what I’ll bestow you) Ife re n kan mi lo mi inu (Your love is at the center of my heart) Orekelewa ni mo ma ba lo. (It’s Orekelewa I’ll go with) I’ve read about it, I’ve listened to people sing songs describing it, I’ve scolded friends about it,jilted one or two hearts that have felt it for me but for the first time in my life I am not ashamed to proclaim it…I am drunk in love and I would sing it to the end of the earth. I smile to myself every time […]
“When it comes to matters of the heart my greatest fear is not falling in love…they say it’s a beautiful thing…my fear is falling out of love”. The last thing I wanted at this hour of the night was to have someone disturb me with a call, yet my phone had rung twice already. Work had been hectic and what little strength I had left was expended in traffic. I got home too tired to even shower, I just fell on the bed and drifted off to sleep only to get awaken barely 20 minutes later by the buzzing of my phone. The phone rang for the third time. “Who the f#%k is this? Don’t they get the concept of day and night?”, I thought as I frantically tried to pick the phone without opening my eyes. I rarely use swear words but I’m sure you understand my grief. I answered […]
Still beats me how any guy wouldn’t love football, especially the ever dramatic EPL. What better way to relax after the hustle and bustle of the week than to get down to a weekend of soccer. Bolu, my best friend, once teased that he wouldn’t be surprised if I leave in the middle of my vows to see a Chelsea match. He’s probably right though, but I’m not bothered because I am very sure he would have helped touched up the vows so he’ll tell the wife-to-be whatever is left to be said. *straight face* That exactly is how much I love soccer. Yet on this Saturday afternoon, I’m staring at my plasma screen but not at the players in blue, nor their opponents clad in red. Not at the tackles flying, nor at coaches yelling instructions from the sidelines. My heart is in another land, far from 22 men running after a […]
It was one of those periods in the year when there was not much to do at work. The ‘less busy season’ as they called it, was a time associates and mangers looked forward to. The office was usually empty as over half of the employees would have jetted off to various places on their annual leave, some to new countries, others (especially the associates) sitting at home enjoying time off work and praying the season never ends. However, a small percentage of employees were always left at work to tend to whatever business that came up.
This thing I have, It’s a knowing, not a bling-bling, A knowing your son died for me, A knowing your spirit lives in me, A knowing you know me by name, A knowing I can call you ‘Abba’, A knowing you’re 1 yet 3, Father,Savior and Friend, A knowing i’m 3-in-1, Son,King and Priest, A knowing you’ve loved with an everlasting love, A knowing I can run to you and you won’t turn me back, A knowing you have plans for me, Plans bigger than my mind can ever conceive, A knowing that I’m a god, A knowing I can do all things, A knowing that when I’m weak, then you’re strong, Your strength is made perfect in my weakness, A knowing I can face tomorrow, Cos I have a piece of you, Jesus piece, Not hung on my neck, but […]
The argument was intense, it lasted about 90 minutes, time I should have invested in the just concluded Chelsea match. This however was one topic very dear to my heart. Tayo had told me about his friend who cried because his babe threatened to leave him. Half interested, I answered with “how I go dey cry for babe when dem no dey do me”. I did not know I was lighting his fuse. I was surprised by his reaction. His temper flared and he started ranting, calling me names. Calming him down, I explained how I just could not imagine myself sulking over some babe. “I be sure boy nah, all these babes no worth make i pour water from my cup talk less of letting a tear roll down my cheek”. We had gone on and on, my opponent’s strong point being I never give room for love, so […]
Will you be the kind of mother that allows her girl child come home past midnight, Dropped off by an ‘insane’ boy, who reeks of alcohol, Likely the smallest of his vices that night? Will you be the type that lies on behalf of your daughter to her father, Corroborating her pseudo story about the need to buy science practical materials When you know it’s just to meet her insatiable financial needs? Will you be the kind that shy away from sex education Even though you caught your underage child in the middle of the night watching an x-rated movie, The scene you saw explainable only by the words ‘illicit sex’? Will you turn deaf ears to the ‘nosy’ neighbors when they tell you they saw your daughter with ‘something like’ cigarette but definitely ‘smells’ like ‘something worse’. Will you tell them to mind their business and […]
